In this thread i will post pictures of a work in progress character. so far i have created consept, the basemesh, rigged and skinned it, posed and made a testrender in less than 8 hours. the total polycount is 1473. I can make it lower, but for this purpose it was enough. I sat down with zrush tonight and sculped for 2 hours. Further sculpting will come tomorrow.

further animation study 09/10/2009

today we looked at key animation, blocking animation and poseing. our task was to take out blocking frames to describe the animation animation. we do this to get better at setting up our own animation and planning our story, motion and poses.
Picture
i chose 5 frames to describe the animation in blocking poses.
here is my blocking. i feel these few images describes the story and the motion.

I did some research of my own and found a clip from the new pixar film "up". i chose out some blocking images here to describe the story. it looks quite funny, and i look forward to when it comes out!

Animation 09/08/2009

Todays asignment was to create a character who lifted something. My goal was to get a good animation with good weight distrubution. And with a cartooney style.
I started by doing some research on youtube and i read some pages in "animators survival kit".
Then i sketched up the extreme poses of the animation, and wrote down some coments on each picture while i was watching my youtube referance. I also got some ideas from the different ways my classmates did their animation. However this method suited me well and I belive the workflow and the short time it took to create, resulted in a decent quality animation because of the pre-study.

Here is my final result for today. It can be tweaked more, but im satisfied with the result due to the short time it was created.

Here is my video reference

This weekend have been busy. Im currently making two projects that are of great publish value if all goes well. I cant say yet what it is, but if it comes through ill post it here some day =)

Anyways. here is a great film of the making of transformers (the 3d part) by Industrial light and magic. I find this of great inspiration.

I just saw ice age 3 and i highly recomand it! Bluesky shows just how good they are in CGfilm and the amount of creativity they still got. In my opinion i think this one is alot better then ice age 2. The story, the animation and the humor in the film was very good.

Small film project number one 09/02/2009

Im going to post some info and pictures here about a small project I've just started. its going to be a animation with a comic style made by Myself and Adrian Fjellberg. This image of the tank took about 2-3 hours to create. its pretty simple considering modelling. the textures and ambient occlusion helps alot to bring out the tank. I may create on a tutorial how to make this fast.

Future 3D film production 09/02/2009

My goal in the nearest future is to expand my skills in 3d techniques like modelling, texturing, lightning, rendering, special effects, animation and zbrush. But the important goal for me is to expand my creativity in a new way. create interesting test of different syles, storytelling and so on.
Experience new ways other than 3d to create film. Like alot more drawing and maybe combine drawing, 3d and other software to get a new look.

Here are some examples
This film is fantastic. the symbolism and the storytelling is great! "Father and daughter"
If you dont understand the story: It's about a girl who loses her father at a young age. and the film is about her life and the struggle with the loss. Its also about the cyclous of life. different people and different greef. Thats my view of the film.
Another great short in 3d is Kiwi.
Great story and good directing. This is something i look for to do better. come up with good ideas, strong storytelling
and simple ways to make them look good.
