<![CDATA[Concept and Matte paint - Julekongen]]>Tue, 02 Apr 2013 19:24:27 GMThttp://www.cgtorch.com/1/post/2013/04/concept-and-matte-paint-julekongen.html"Julekongen" is a christmas series for TV that aired december 2012. I did quite a few matte paintings on the show at Storyline. The deadline was very tight, I think it was about 2-3 weeks to conceptualize the shots and do 6 different Matte paintings, incuding different time of day and ect. It was a fun project and I'm looking forward to do similar work in the future =)
Here are some of the Conceptual development
And here are some of the final matte paintings. These are moving shots with different atmostphere, details and camera move. I will post a showreel one day including some of these shots.
Here's a matte paint concept pitch for a commercial I did a while back. It took me a day to create these.

<![CDATA[Conceptual development - Journey to the christmas star]]>Sat, 16 Mar 2013 12:11:17 GMThttp://www.cgtorch.com/1/post/2013/03/conceptual-development-journey-to-the-christmas-star.htmlHere are some of the post production conceptual development I did on journey to the christmas star at Storyline. My task was to figure out the castle and environments and get them to match with the continuity of the film. This development also helped me in the process of doing the matte paintings later on, as most of the planning then was set and ready to go.

I also did a few quick concepts inhouse on FX shots and ect.

Here are some concept development:

Some form of the designs and matte paints I did aslo ended in the prologue and the ending of the film that Joachim Barrum painted. Images can be seen here http://joachimart.com/environments/single-gallery/
One of the matte paintings also ended up in one of the three amazing posters

And here are some of the final images on the film created at @storyline

<![CDATA[Concepts and creatures]]>Fri, 22 Feb 2013 23:20:28 GMThttp://www.cgtorch.com/1/post/2013/02/concepts-and-creatures.htmlHi, and thanks for reading!

I've started to do a concept sketch a day every day now, and hopefully I'm able to keep it going. The concept has to be created in less than an hour and I'm also doing themes wich I'm not really good at.
Feel free to comment suggestions to what I can draw =) You can also like and share via social networks now.

Here are some rough sketches, trying hard to get better.
Here is a 2D concept (the dog) Wich I created a rough of earlier, and took it to a final concept. Total time spent is about 2-3 hours.
The 3D creature was sculpted, textured, posed and redered in Zbrush. Then finished in Photoshop. The whole thing took 3 hours. I'm happy with getting a result that fast, and I'm going to keep pushing it to make it faster. Ofcourse also paying attention to idea, design and anotomy.

<![CDATA[FEBRUARY]]>Sun, 10 Feb 2013 00:18:01 GMThttp://www.cgtorch.com/1/post/2013/02/february.htmlI've created two character images here. I feel happy with them and feel happy doing them aswell, so more to come in the future =)
The process of creating these are done by starting with sculpting in zbrush, texture and render in zbrush, then comping and painting the final image in photoshop.

I've also been doing alot of different stuff at work. Modelling ect, compositing, conceptart and matte paint. I've also been doing alot of traditional drawing at home, concept art, character design and matte paint. I will post more on this later =)

Here's another concept that I recently did. This was for the "White walker" concept challenge at the gnomon workshop. Won 1'st place with it and got 25 gnomon dvd's.

<![CDATA[January]]>Mon, 28 Jan 2013 21:19:00 GMThttp://www.cgtorch.com/1/post/2013/01/january.htmlHere are two quick matte paintings created in 3 hours each. They can ofcourse be better by tweaks and detail work, but it was fun to create something quick for now =)
(I also incuded the plates I stated with, for you too see)

<![CDATA[December - Matte Painting]]>Fri, 07 Dec 2012 13:20:22 GMThttp://www.cgtorch.com/1/post/2012/12/december-matte-painting.htmlNow that "Journey to the christmas star" is running in the cinema here in Norway I can show you some of the matte paintings I did on it. I designed the castle on the reference they had on location and the look that they wanted to end up with. The different landscapes I designed to match the mood, time of day and how it would mach the environments that were shot.
I will show the breakdown of the shots later.

Recently I did a different castle incuding different landscapes, time of day and time of year for a christmas TV series called "julekongen". I'm going to post more on this in january when it has finished on TV.

I also got chosen as the number one mattepainting over the mattepainting course at CGsociety. This will show up there somewhere I belive, This was the tropical caribean still shot matte painting.
Here's the images. (and there is a photo of me there at my workstation)

<![CDATA[Movember update]]>Tue, 20 Nov 2012 22:21:24 GMThttp://www.cgtorch.com/1/post/2012/11/movember-update.htmlJourney to the christmas star is now out and doing well in cinemas across Norway. The movie is also going to be set up internationally. After doing landscapes and castle matte paints for this project it wasnt long before I got another mattepaint job including landscapes and castle again. This time for a christmas TV series. So I'll be updating images and breakdowns on this when they all have aired and I'm permitted to post them.

In the meantime here are some new personal work, sketches and ect. Also including a photo of our new VFX room at work.

<![CDATA[Autumn 2012]]>Mon, 17 Sep 2012 20:30:20 GMThttp://www.cgtorch.com/1/post/2012/09/autumn-2012.htmlAutumn is here and a lot has happened since my last update. Not so much on the personal artworks, but I have managed to create something over the past months. There has been alot to do at my job though, and I've done some cool things I hopefully can show some day.

I've been working on "Journey to the christmas star" now for quite some time and we are we are close to deadline. A very cool and long project it has been! Gonna post a trailer here as soon as it shows up.

Other than that I've decided to commit more of my time and guide my future career into the fields of concept art and
matte painting. Setting my future goals to become a VFX art director some day.

Btw, Storyline Studios (where I work) has got a new profile and we have moved to a new location. The new office space is huge and looking good. (Images to be followed)

I'm going to attend a mattepainting course over 8 weeks starting next month, so until then here are some personal sketches and WIP images I've done since last time. And there's an image of my desk at work (just got a new cintiq 24HD wich is pretty cool)
