Traditional drawing 07/29/2010

I find traditional drawing as a great asset to improve both digital painting and creating 3d scenes and so forth. There is no wonder why so many firms and schools are looking for foundational drawing skills in some possitions. As many proffesional artist say: Drawing is where everything starts. I belive by having foundational drawing skill, you will improve the way you tackle different tasks. Some of them may be: Orginality, showing people better what ideas you are trying to get out there and you will "sell" your work better. Take a look at some interviews from digital artists, and you will find alot of explination why drawing is so important.

So join me in improving drawing skills, and remember. If you in some way enjoy it, do more and you will see that at some point you cant stop drawing :) Do yourself a favor, and the favor may come back to you in form of a job.

Here is some of my latest traditional drawings.

I would like to start of by thanking all my classmates over the past two years. I would also like to thank my teacher Paul Bettinson for helping me with alot of things, good teaching and inspiring guidence towards the industry! All my classmates has been a huge inspiration and I often go to bed looking forward to the next day at school. Same thing waking up in the morning, I feel motivated to meeting my friends, learning and sharing knowlege, and at the same time having a lot of fun! Special thanks to you guys =) I wish you all good luck in your next year of school, jobs or whatever it will be.

I will never forget the two best years of my life so far =)

I'm very glad I bought this product, the respons is good, the screen is very good, the mobility is nice and it feels really good to draw directly on the screen. Amazing stuff! My first 3d concept with a cintiq is done, and it wasnt only 3x times more fun drawing, it was also alot easier then a tablet! =) So enough said, I recommend a cintiq if you are wondering about buying one.

I'm so excited today, i just received my new wacom cintiq! When I waked up today and turned on my cell, a message said that my package had arrived. I literally jumped up from bed. It was the fastest way I woke up in a long time, he he. I cant wait to start of some nice concepts and paintings! The new cintiq is really nice and with the exterior its as large as a 24" screen, or even larger. The pen tip respond is very accurate and fast. This is the coolest computer toy I've ever bought and I cant wait to get started on some cool projects! After one day my small appartment smells like wacom, haha. (witch is quite nice actually)

PS: For those of you who didnt know, a wacom cintiq is a tablet screen you can draw and paint directly on in photoshop and so on. Short explained: A pen to move your mouse pointer, with angle tilt and pressure sensitivity starting at only 1 gram of pressure.

Inspiration: Alot of my inspiration comes from various artist in the industry. One I would like to talk shortly about here is Ben Procter. He was the lead robot designer on Transformers. These type of detailed work from 2d concepts to 3d concepts are just awesome. And they did defenatly inspire me in making of this film. I did ofcourse simplify the designs alot, and drew different references. But the orgin of my inspiration sometimes comes from this artist, among others. I also do personal work inspired by these type of detailed design, and I just love it.

Here Im going to show you some promo pictures from the Ident intro and a shot from the film. Since monday Remi and Me have been working on a cool ident for the film. I did the idle animation on the robot to the right, wich I also made earlier. I aslo lighted, shader adustment and materials, rendering, and composeting the shot in a program that was totally new to me. I did get some help and tips for the post work by Adrian and Xia. I feel the intro turned out really nice, and Im pleased with the result. This was a fresh breeze after doing alot of animation. And Im glad I got to do something I loved here at the end of the project. Hope you like it and you will be soon able to view the film!

Look at me, spamming away blogposts today =) Our project is near the end, and I must say that my interest and motivation for doing this school stuff is a bit lower then before. Like my teacher said, my body is here, and my soul is at my upcomming job at storyline studios. I cant hide the fact that my mind drifts of there from time to time, but I still think its important to complete the school and do my best on this student film. Not as much for myself, but to support my production team. They all have been working hard on this film, and I feel that I cant let them down by quitting now. Dont get me wrong, it's still fun to work on this film and beeing social at school. So there would not be any reason to quit really =)

I feel that we did a good job on this film, and its soon coming to an end. I hope we get everything done and polished with sound, It seems that way at the moment. So thanks to all the hard workers on SAX production: Adrian, Remi, Sebastian, William and Xia.

Our film will hopefully be shown, among others at Latter on akerbrygge the 18'th of june. Come and see it! It's defenatly going to be a fun night.
